Barry Youth Council

We are a group of young people aged 11-18 who represent the views and opinions of young people in Barry. We represent schools, youth clubs, youth organisations and our peers.

Come along to our next meeting at Cemetery Approach Community Centre on Friday 30th July at 4pm - 6pm

We believe that young people have a right to be involved in decisions that affect them and their communities.

What do we do?

  • We work closely with Barry Town Council and support the Barry Town Mayor’s charities.
  • We work with local decision-makers to make sure young people’s views are taken seriously.
  • We organise and get involved in different projects to improve Barry for young people such as fundraising for charities, supporting community
  • events, improving local parks and much more.

Barry Youth Action is supported by the Vale Youth Service and Barry Town Council.

Do you want to make a difference for young people living in Barry?

Do you want to learn more about what happens at a local government level?

Do you want to meet new people and gain new skills?

Did you answer yes?

If you are aged between 11 & 18 and answered “yes” to those questions then we want to hear from you! To be considered all you need to do is write a short statement explaining why you think you would make a good youth councillor and how you would represent the views of your peers.

Return your statement to;

Friday  25th June 2021, Barry Town Council hosted its first Pizza & Chat event to engage with young people! We wanted to find out how Covid-19 has affected them and begin recruiting to our Youth Council which we hope will have its first meeting in September!

If you are aged between 11 and 17 years old and live or study in Barry and would like more information about future events and the Youth Council – please get in touch with Robyn on robynwalsh@barrytowncouncil.gov.uk
