Family Fun Day 2024

Barry Town Council’s Family Fun Day is Returning with More Entertainment at Affordable Prices

Barry Town Council have announced the return of its Family Fun Day that’s FREE for all to attend. Central Park and King Square will be transformed into a STEM day out – for all ages to enjoy entertainment and low-cost workshops for families to enjoy.

The Family Fun Day will be taking place on Thursday 8th August, starting at 11am and finishing at 4pm. The event is anticipated to exceed last year’s footfall of 4,500 and hit record attendance, with families being drawn from the Vale of Glamorgan and neighbouring counties to boost tourism in Barry.

Mayor of Barry, Councillor Iannucci-Williams said:
“It’s great that Barry Town Council’s Family Fun Day is back again this year, and I’m really pleased that we can offer a low-cost day out for everyone in the community to enjoy. Seeing the community come together with local traders and volunteers to support community events like this is lovely and a good reminder that we have a vibrant town centre where people can shop locally”

With the goal of providing an affordable and accessible day out for families during the Summer holidays and Cost of Living Crisis, an array of free entertainment and activities will be supplied by the likes of LaLaLa Productions Street Theatre Crazy Scientists, Techniquest, Vale Youth Service, Vale Play, free face painting, and Reptile Encounters. Throughout the afternoon, there will be a programme of on-stage performances from local musicians and bands; It Takes Two, Rich’s Rock School, Nia Tyler, The Goodges, Kaysha Louvain, Harrison Oliver, and Delicious Dee Music. Bro Radio will also be joining us with their mobile broadcasting van.

A variety of low-cost workshops will also be available to try, such as a slime-making by The Crafty Club, biscuit decorating by Cookstars and plenty of activities to try in the Scouts Zone. Emergency services demonstrations will also be provided by the National Coast Guards, South Wales Police, South Wales Fire Service, and HART (Hazardous Area Response Teams).
Kings Square will be filled with a generous selection of food and drink traders, and local craft stalls to choose from including: cakes supplied by Bocs Pwdin and Eleri’s Welshcakes, Pasties from PoGo, Flatbread Kebabs and Chips from Cariad Catering, Snow Cones and drinks from Frozen Rainbows, a BBQ supplied by Barry Round Table. There will also be a few fun fair rides in Kings Square provided by James Danter & Sons (charges will apply for rides).
