Barry Christmas Festival

Barry Christmas Festival returns once again to King Square and Central Park, with a partnership event brought to you by Barry Town Council and Vale of Glamorgan Council, which is part-funded through the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.

The festival is being held on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd November 2024, with wonderful festive fun across both days. Friday 22nd November will see the return of the annual lights switch-on. The Town Hall, Christmas tree and town centre will be lit up after a countdown with Santa and his elves from 6pm on King Square. The event will be open from 3pm until 7pm on the Friday, with a Christmas market, live music, funfair rides along the pedestrianised area of Holton Road, plus light arches, a food zone and bar area, street entertainment and Santa’s grotto. The festivities continue on Saturday 23rd November with the event open from 12pm until 7pm.

On Saturday come along and meet Lumi – the magnificent 4-metre-tall illuminated Christmas Reindeer. Lumi the Reindeer will be at the event on King Square, from 12pm to 7pm.
Lumi is produced by Walk the Plank, and designed and built by Dave Young.

The Christmas Market will feature over 30 traders, selling personalised gifts, crochet, candles & jewellery, as well as cakes, honey, fudge and alcohol – perfect for getting your Christmas gifts from local independent businesses.

Barry Town Council funds the Christmas lights on Park Crescent, High Street, and Holton Road each year. In addition, this year Barry Town Council will also be lighting up the Town Hall and providing the Christmas tree on King Square.

Cllr Bronwen Brooks, Leader of Barry Town Council and Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Place, said:
“I am delighted that Barry Town Council is able to keep the community spirit alive by continuing to fund the Christmas lights across the town as well as the Christmas tree on King Square, and the Town Hall lights.
“This year’s festive decorations will be a great example of partnership working in the town with the Vale Council’s teams taking responsibility for getting the tree and supporting infrastructure in place at no cost.
“Christmas can sometimes be a difficult time of year for people, and the Barry Christmas Festival is an event that celebrates coming together with friends and family, and being there for each other. It will also help boost footfall for local traders ahead of the Christmas period.
“I look forward to joining the people of Barry for the annual Christmas light switch on, and would like to wish everybody a very joyous festive season.”
