International Women’s day is a global celebration marking the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equity, with the theme for 2024 being #InspireInclusion.
Barry Town Council will celebrate its own International Women’s Day on Friday 8 March. The event will feature a Coffee Morning at Cemetery Approach Community Centre. The coffee morning will begin with a welcome from the Mayor of Barry, followed by talks from Chief Officer Emily Forbes, Nia Tyler, Ayshea Martyn and former Future Generations Commissioner of Wales Sophie Howe. There will also be a fun and informative quiz about women in history, positive and motivating quotes for everyone to take home, music from artist Nia Tyler and a raffle to contribute towards the Mayor’s chosen Charities: Mind in the Vale and 2Wish.
When we inspire others to understand and value women’s inclusion, we forge a better world. And when women themselves are inspired to be included, there’s a sense of belonging, relevance and empowerment. In fact, back in 1974, the first Town Clerk of Barry Town Council was a woman and moving into our 50th year, our current Town Clerk (Chief Officer) is a woman too!
So come to this event and let’s Inspire Inclusion together. All are welcome to attend the event with it being free and open to the whole community.
