Barry Town Council has welcomed a new Chief Officer to lead the Council, its staff and its activities. Rachel Honey-Jones joined the team at the beginning of this month.
Having started her career with Vale of Glamorgan Council, Ms Honey-Jones has a strong background in social housing, having most recently been a Head of Service for Cadarn Group. This role involved undertaking a significant amount of work in Barry and the surrounding areas over recent years. As a former resident of the town, Ms Honey-Jones is delighted to return to Barry and begin working on behalf of its wonderful communities.
Commenting on her appointment, Ms Honey-Jones said:
“I am ecstatic that I have been appointed as the new Chief Officer for Barry Town Council who already do so much to ensure that Barry is celebrated and that people are rightly proud of where they live. Returning to Barry – a place I genuinely love, have lived, worked in and felt a part of for many years is truly an incredibly proud moment. I am really looking forward to contributing to the vision for Barry’s bright future, working with the elected members and leading a hard-working and enthusiastic staff team to deliver for the people of the town. ”

The Chief Officer role is often referred to as the Town Clerk. The Chief Officer acts as the Council’s principal advisor and accountable manager, responsible for the effective implementation of its decisions and the management of its resources. They serve as the “Proper Officer,” with statutory duties to carry out the Council’s functions and ensure it meets its legal obligations.
