Barry Town Council’s Family Fun Day is Returning with More Entertainment at Affordable Prices
Barry Town Council have announced the return of its Family Fun Day that’s FREE for all to attend, with the addition of exciting new attractions, including dinosaur entertainment and low-cost workshops for families to enjoy.
Located at Central Park and King Square, the Family Fun Day will be taking place on Thursday 24th August, starting at 10am and finishing at 3pm. Being the lead-up to the August Bank Holiday weekend, the event is anticipated to exceed last year’s footfall of 2,000 and hit record attendance, with families being drawn from the Vale of Glamorgan and neighbouring counties to boost tourism in Barry.
Leader of Barry Town Council, Councillor Bronwen Brooks said “I am delighted that Barry Town Council’s Family Fun Day returns for another year, offering a low-cost day out for everyone in the community to enjoy. I would also like to thank the Vale of Glamorgan Council for their support with partial funding for this event, so we are able to create a bigger and better event this year.”
“Working with local traders to create a vibrant and bustling town-wide event is at heart of what Barry Town Council is about and I hope the community joins in this widespread fun by shopping local and supporting small businesses. This is another example of Barry Town Council supporting Shop Local, voluntary organisations and the residents of Barry and I look forward to seeing you all there.”
With the goal of providing an affordable and accessible day out for families during the Summer holidays and Cost of Living Crisis, an array of free entertainment will be supplied by the likes of Dino2Hire, British Rabbit Council, and Reptile World. Dino2Hire is certain to be a spectacle, complete with a walk-about raptor, Jurassic Park gate, and an educational fossil workshop. Throughout the afternoon, there will be a programme of on-stage performances from local musicians, bands, and Barry Community Choir, for all to enjoy.
A variety of low-cost workshops will also be available to try, such as a slime-making by The Crafty Club, bath bomb-making by Majestic Essentials and dance classes by Tiny Toes Ballet. Emergency services demonstrations will also be provided by the National Coast Guards, South Wales Police, and South Wales Fire Service.
In response to the public’s request for there to be more food to be available, following from feedback of last year’s event, Central Park will be filled with a generous selection of food and drink traders to choose from. The list includes an ice cream van, cakes supplied by Num Nums #Barry, sandwiches and baguettes from Caesars, pizza from The Artisan Cook, BBQ supplied by Barry Round Table and a plastic-free pick ‘n mix from Awesome Wales.
Aligning with its ‘Shop Local’ agenda, Barry Town Council are set on keeping the Fun Day as close to home as possible by promoting local traders and musical talent. To make the event accessible to all and to allow them to profit as much as possible, all traders are attending with zero fees, whilst high street businesses have been offered promotion opportunities to also benefit from the event.
Chair of the Shop Local Barry Advisory Committee, Amy Greenfield said “We are delighted to come together as a community for a wonderful town centre Family Fun Day! On behalf of Shop Local Barry traders, I would like to express our appreciation to Barry Town Council for involving so many local businesses in the event.”
“We eagerly anticipate a day brimming with joy, laughter, and the chance to celebrate the unique spirit of our town. Please do join us this August to support our Town Centre and enjoy a great day out with the family!”
All of this and more has been made possible with the aid of a shared prosperity grant received from the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s ‘Event Grant Scheme’, making the day more fun-packed than ever whilst remaining as low-cost as possible for attendees.
