Barry Town Council

Almost every area of the Vale of Glamorgan has its own community council, this is the tier of local government that solely serves the local community. For Barry this is Barry Town Council.

The Council has certain legal rights (for example, in relation to planning) and undertakes a wide variety of consultation and representation in the interests of local residents. It is consulted on planning applications, street naming, diversion orders and a whole range of licensing issues. The Council has the power to prosecute and defend legal proceedings in the interests of local residents, and to take part in local public enquiries.

The Council also has a number of other responsibilities, including acting as Burial Authority for the area, the management and running of a number of buildings within the town and the support of local bodies and worthwhile local projects.
