Out & About - To the West

To the west, beyond the airport at Rhoose, is the small and attractive town of Llantwit Major, which is only a mile from the sea. The beach here is popular with surfers.
Two miles to the west is St. Donat’s, a delightful village and site of St. Donat’s Castle, a splendid baronial mansion that is now used by the United World College of the Atlantic. Guided tours of the castle take place from mid to late August.
A little further to the west is Nash Point, a prominent viewpoint and beauty spot, and the location of two lighthouses, which have now been converted into holiday accommodation. The coastline in this part of the vale of Glamorgan has been designated a Heritage Coast by the Countryside Commission and footpaths are being improved and way marked. A heritage centre is located near Southerndown and from here a large range of interpretative leaflets can be obtained.
