Sport in Barry

Pitch and putt can be played at the 18-hole course in Porthkerry Country Park, a course opened by Dai Rees in 1972. A more exacting 18-hole golf course can be found at Brynhill Golf Club, located on land accessed from Port Road East. For those golfers who would like to practice their driving technique and receive expert tuition, the South Wales Golf Range is also accessed from Port Road East. Situated just outside Barry is the 9-hole par 35 course St Andrews Major Golf Club.

Tennis and bowls are well catered for within the town. Tennis courts are located at Romilly and Victoria Parks, as well as in Gladstone and Alexandra Gardens. There are bowling greens at Romilly and Victoria Parks, Broad Close and in Gladstone Gardens, with several bowling clubs for men and women. A large new indoor facility has opened in the nearby village of Sully.

For cricket there is Pencoedtre Park and the Athletic Club on Barry Island. Both soccer and rugby football are catered for by clubs and grounds in Barry and beyond. Barry Rugby Football Club plays its home games at the Reservoir Field on Merthyr Dyfan Road. Barry Town Football club, who play at Jenner Park (recently upgraded to meet European football standards), field a successful team in the League of Wales.

Track and field athletics are well catered for: the Vale Council-owned Jenner Park, home of Barry Town FC and Barry FC, has an excellent all-weather running track, high, long and triple jump facilities plus dedicated areas and the necessary equipment for throwing events.
