Parks and Open Spaces

Parks and open spaces have long been some of Barry’s most enjoyable features. Near the heart of the Holton Road shopping centre are Gladstone Gardens and the newly refurbished Central Park. The latter comprises a brand new and well equipped play area, as well as making provision for teenagers nearby. Other open spaces in the town include Romilly Park (west Barry), Victoria Park (Cadoxton), plus Alexandra and Pencoedtre Gardens. All are provided with recreational amenities (including equipped play areas). The 15 acre Romilly Park, as well as featuring brilliant floral displays, is frequently the location for sporting and horticultural events.
Pride of place should arguably go to Porthkerry Country Park, which lies on the western edge of Barry and is one of the largest public open spaces in the Vale of Glamorgan. Close to the sea, this lovely park is noted for beautiful sunsets seen from its grounds, and for the statuesque grandeur of the railway viaduct that strides across it. There is a number of interesting nature trails.
