Industrial Barry

The industrial scene is dominated by chemical producers, such as Dow Corning who a few years ago constructed the largest silicon production plant in Europe here. Also there are Ineos Chlor, Zeon and Cabot Carbon. Other key employers in Barry Docks are Dunn Brothers, Scott Timber, Evans & Reid, Western Welding and Engineering, JT Evans, Harris Pye, Jewson's, Rank Hovis, Vopak and Associated British Ports.

The area to the North of No.1 Dock was home to Woodham’s Scrap Yard, which became famous throughout Britain as the “Graveyard of Steam”, a rare attraction for steam railway enthusiasts and preservationists. The locomotives are now long gone.

Adjacent to the docks is the 87-acre Atlantic Trading Estate, a former military depot. On the north side of Cardiff Road is Ty Verlon Industrial Estate, established by the former Welsh Development Agency. Nearby, Palmerston Trading Estate has accommodation for a range of businesses.
