Facilities for Youth

There are a number of groups located in Barry catering for local teenagers and pre-teens. Perhaps one of the most significant of these is Area 41, a media facility for young people located at 41 Holton Road. Several times each term, the Vibe, a multi-media youth organisation which operates from Area 41, organises discos for local teenagers in the Memorial Hall & Theatre nearby.

The uniformed organisations are well represented in Barry. These include the Scouts, the Guides, the Air Training Corps and numerous others, all of which have local headquarters around the Town. Many sports clubs and societies have youth sections, including the local cricket, football, martial arts, rugby and swimming clubs. Amateur dramatics are also a key pastime in Barry, including ‘Billboard’ and the Barry Arts Centre, both of whom encourage young people to join and participate. These are not the only voluntary groups to welcome youth participation, indeed most local sporting, artistic and culturally orientated groups provide for and welcome young people.

Further information on the groups mentioned above can be found by contacting the Vale Council for Voluntary Service, whose web site address is www.vcvs.org.uk.
