Education

Parents in Barry have a wide range of choices when it comes to their children’s schooling. Most of the town’s primary schools feed into Bryn Hafren Comprehensive and Barry Comprehensive, both with around 1400 pupils on their roles. Bryn Hafren is for girls and Barry Comprehensive for boys up to Year 11, whilst the schools mix at sixth form level. St Richard Gwyn, with around 550 pupils, is the only Catholic secondary school in the Vale; there is also a Catholic infant/junior school. For sixth form, pupils go to a college in Cardiff. There is one Church in Wales (Anglican) primary which feeds a secondary in Cardiff. The Vale’s only Welsh medium secondary, Ysgol Gyfun Bro Morgannwg, is also in Barry. With around 780 pupils, it is fed by three Welsh medium primaries in Barry which ensure that pupils reach secondary level with fluent Welsh as well as English language skills.
